Passion sounds cute… until it’s paying your bills
I came across this story the other day someone wrote:
“I’m 28, and already on my third career pivot since college. Everyone says ‘follow your passion’… but most of the people I know who did that are underpaid, burned out, and stuck. Meanwhile, my friends with boring jobs? They’ve got money, travel, and time.”
It made me think about something I don’t hear people say enough:
Turning your passion into your job can actually ruin it.
We grew up hearing, “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”
But honestly, is that true?
Because the moment your passion becomes your paycheck, everything changes.
Now you’ve got deadlines. Clients. Metrics. Pressure.
What used to bring you excitement?
Now it has to perform. It has to sell.
And when that happens, you’re not doing it for the love anymore.
You’re doing it because rent is due…
Truth is, not every hobby needs to become a hustle.
Sometimes the smartest move is to get a stable job, build a good life, and keep your passion as your escape, not your survival plan.
That doesn’t make you unambitious. It makes you free.
So I’m curious…
Have you ever tried to turn something you loved into work and ended up resenting it?
Let’s talk about it.
Seriously. I’d love to hear your story.
